How to Help

How You Can Help Stop Puppy Mills

#1 Contact Your Local Government

Write letters to your state senator(s) and to your state representative telling why they should pass laws that prevent the sale of puppies at pet stores. Harley's Dream provides a sample letter to help you get started.

Click the buttons below to find your local contacts. For your local city council members, type the following statement in your search engine: city council members for (add your city name).

#2 Contact Your Local Newspaper

Send a  “letter to the editor” of your local newspaper telling why people should not buy puppies from pet stores.

#3 Learn About Puppy Mills

There are many incredible non-profit organizations working to end puppy mills and advocating for animal welfare. The following are just a few organizations that are a great resource and provide education.

#4 Join the Cause

Follow organizations that are working hard to end puppy mills.  If you are allowed,  share what you learn on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and in emails.  Now is your chance to speak up for puppy mill dogs.

Each one of us has the power to make a difference for puppy mill dogs by taking action.

#5 Share Your Knowledge

Make a presentation about why you should not buy puppies from pet stores, like Lily and her best friends Renzo and Emily did.  Share it with other classes in your school. Send it to other schools.

With your Boy Scout or Girl Scout Troop, do a letter-writing campaign to your elected officials and puppy mill owners telling your opinion about locking dogs in cages. The Bailing Out Benji website can provide addresses for these people.

#6 Learn About General Care & Rehabilitation of Rescued Puppy Mill Dogs
