Recently, I was interviewed by my friend and fellow middle-grade author Sarah Maury Swan for her book blog https://sarahsbookreflections.com/2022/03/11/lily-unleashed-is-a-winner/. When I first moved to New Bern, I was lucky and found a writing critique group which is where I met Sarah. She is witty, intelligent, and thoughtful, and we hit it off immediately.
Being a horse lover, I was thrilled to learn of Sarah's middle-grade novel, Emily's Ride to Courage https://www.amazon.com/Emilys-Ride-Courage-Sarah-Maury/dp/1978170173/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1648001945&sr=1-1. Her story spoke to me immediately and I am happy to say I learned quite a bit more about horse care and training. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience watching Emily's development across the novel. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good story.
For my interview, Sarah posed thoughtful questions that allowed me the chance to tell the story behind the story of Lily Unleashed, my debut novel.
Children have always been a huge part of my life. As an elementary school teacher, a special part of my day was reading great stories, discussing them, and finally, guiding the students to capture their own stories on paper. And that is how Lily Unleashed began.
Daily life with my little rescued puppy mill survivor provided ample story seeds. #puppymillsurvivor #puppymillawareness
